The Fine Gael Health Spokesperson, Dr James Reilly has confirmed that he will be visiting Donegal on Thursday and Friday of this week.
The Dublin North representative will be meeting with various groups to discuss their concerns with issues such as cancer care, the psychiatric nurses dispute and hospital waiting lists.

The former Doctor and newly elected T.D. has made quite an im
pression since Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny appointed him as the shadow minister for health, following last year’s election. He has actively campaigned for better health services nationwide and continues to play a key role in highlighting the inadequacies within the health service.

On his two day visit, Dr Reilly will meet with representatives from CCNW and DACC to discuss the continual neglect of the North-West in terms of cancer services and he will also visit nursing units in Buncrana and Ramelton to discuss the care of the elderly. He will also meet parents of children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to examine the possibility of funding for research.

On Friday Afternoon, Highland Radio’s Shaun Doherty will interview Dr Reilly on his vision for health care in Ireland. Afterwards, there will be a press conference in the Fine Gael constituency office at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny, where lunch will be served. This will be followed by a visit to the Letterkenny General Hospital and an extensive tour of the South-West constituency.

Deputy Joe McHugh says that this visit offers an opportunity for the people of Donegal to express their views on issues relating to health.

“There are many concerns here in Donegal at the minute with cancer care hospital waiting times at the top of the list. Dr Reilly has vast experience in the area of health and is eager to hear the concerns of people throughout the country. Dr Reilly has challenged the health minister regularly in the Dail and it is important that he is fighting Donegal’s corner with the minister.”

The Donegal deputy also encouraged the public to come and meet Dr Reilly on Friday and hear what he has to say. “We will be in my office at 1.30pm on Friday and everyone is welcome to attend and have a chance to speak with Dr Reilly.
