It's been the wettest summer in Inishowen in ten years - officially.
Weather watchdogs, Met Eireann, have confirmed we’ve seen more drizzle this summer than we have seen since the summer of 98.

And it appears it isn’t just Inishowen that has fallen victim of a holiday of torrential rain, in fact it has bucketed it
down more than it has done in half a century in the capital.

Met Eireann’s latest monthly weather report has - not surprisingly - revealed it hasn’t stopped raining cats and dogs all summer long across the country.

Cork has recorded its wettest summer since rainfall records began there in 1952 while Dublin hasn’t tipped it down as much since 1958.

The report said sunshine hours of 70 to 110, last month, were more typical of October, it said.

The report stated: “For the second successive summer, rainfall totals were above normal everywhere and were more than twice the average in the east and southeast of the country.

“Dublin Airport had its wettest summer since 1958, while it was the wettest at Cork Airport since records began there in 1962.

“There were some exceptionally heavy daily falls throughout the season, particularly in the period from late July to mid-August.”

In commenting on the month of August, the report stated: “August was a month of exceptionally heavy rain over most of the country, bringing flooding in many areas.

“Following the pattern of much of this summer’s weather, low pressure close to or over Ireland bought a succession of Atlantic frontal systems across the country, giving some significant falls.

“It was the wettest August on record at a number of stations.”
