Snazzy 25m euro plans for a state-of-the-art four star holiday resport in Ballyliffin were unveiled last night.
Boasting bars, restaurants, conference facilities amongst a host more the hotel proposals promise to make the village one of Ireland's top holdiay destinations.

The mammoth family-orientated complex - which is based at the former Pollen Beach Hotel site - will be home to 104 bedroom suites, 22 apartments, an outdoor pursuits centre, indoor children's play area, creche and expansive gardens stretching to the beautiful beach.

A planning application will soon be lodged to Donegal County Council and if planners give the development the green light it is hoped it will be up and running by 2010 creating a whopping 120 jobs in the area.
The impressive proposals were launched at a press conference held at the Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa yesterday evening.

Promoters of the project, Ireland and UK-based business men, Sean Keogh and Owen McLaughlin along with managing director Cecil Doherty told the Journal the project has been researched at length and they are fully committed to this innovative venture to develop the area into a national destination resort.

Cecil Doherty, who is also the managing director of the Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa, said the project was one of the 'most exciting initiatives' ever to be considered in Inishowen.

He told the Journal: "In this economic wasteland after years of non investment it is absolutely brilliant that two entrepreneurs are prepared to invest huge personal funds into building a landmark resort in Ballyliffin, which will bring new visitors to the area and effectively safeguard jobs across all sectors for the future."

Businessman Sean Keogh said: "We see the economic void that exists in Inishowen and with tourism representing one of our main hopes for the future of the peninsula, we are happy to invest in that future.

"In the current economic climate we have many opportunities to invest world wide for greater returns, but this is very much a labour of love and we are committed to investing in the preservation of the future of our local community.

Belfast-based architects R.P.P who have extensive experience in building large resort projects such as Galgorm Manor and Slieve Donard Hotel, have been appointed to develop the project described as 'understated elegance'.

And mechanical and electrical consultants Patrick McCaul and Company from Omagh have been charged with the task of designing an eco friendly building exploring wind and bio fuels as alternative energy sources for the complex.

Cecil added: "We look forward to working with the local authorities in bringing this project to fruition and together tackling and resolving the long outstanding infrastructural deficiencies that blight the area.
"Thereafter we can all look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors annually to the area and delivering an outstanding Inishowen experience whatever the occasion.

"I never thought I'd ever have the opportunity to say this but right now our future is in our hands - we must all seize the moment."

Suggest for tourism marketing board to try to focus so that low cost air lines - like easy jet and ryan air target more te Italy/Sicily/Malta routes towards the Belfast/Donegal/Derry airports...tourism from such low lying hot areas (year long) towards northern european spheres is always expanding and surely, with a little promotion, north west irish citizens will favour sampling more medit climates at sensible rates - without having to take off from Dublin, whilst mediterraneans after cooler/greener areas will surely spread their wings....win/win resulting more tourism and more jobs for the north west....too.
