A motorist who forced other drivers to take evasive action when he dangerously overtook a number of cars, was fined at Letterkenny District Court.
Christopher Clarke of Braehead Road, Derry, was charged with dangerous driving at Magherabeg, Manorcunningham on November 12 last.

Clarke was observed by an off-duty garda overtaking a number of vehicles on a continuous white line while a tractor and lorry approached in the opposite direction.

The vehicles had to alter their position on the road before the driver “cut in sharply”, the court heard.

Solicitor, Patsy Gallagher said his client, originally from Carrigans, was a 25-year-old electrician who worked in the North Sea, and had accepted the facts outlined.

He said the Mazda car he drove was his “pride and joy” and his driving licence was essential to him for his employment.

Judge Kevin Kilrane fined him €500.
