Despite it bucketing down at the weekend thousands of festival-goers turned out in force to see the opening of Inishowen's famous Clonmany festival.
Kicking off its 41st year, the rain started lashing it down but it didn't deter crowds who have travelled from all over the county, country and England for the popular annual event.

And one of the organiser's Hugo Boyce, said he wasn't surprised the rain didn't put off the crowds. He told the Journal: "The weather was terrible, but there was still a big crowd out. The people came regardless.

"The weather dried up and there was a massive crowd for the Dominic Kirwan gig.

"There come from all over the place, there is a lot over from England and Scotland and we see the same faces back year after year."

Mr Boyce said the festival brings a great buzz and sense of community spirit to the town.

He said its been good for business too, with local hotels and B&Bs in neighbouring Ballyliffin being full-booked up.

He added: "Everywhere is booked up - its a great sign for the festival.

Mr Boyce said work on the Market House has finished and is looking superb.

He said: "There is a new tea shop open, it sells teas, soups and sandwiches and there are toilets there too and the Irish kitchen is open three nights a week. We are looking forward to the rest of the week.

"There is a great atmosphere in town."
