A 19-year-old Galliagh man is to be sentenced next month after he pleaded guilty at the city's Crown Court yesterday to a charge of assaulting a man in Altnagelvin Hospital.
Emmett William Robert Ebbs, from Altcar Park, admitted committing the offence on September 2, 2006. He also pleaded guilty to smashing a window in the hospital on the same date.

Ebbs also faced five other assault and criminal damage charges, but he was found not guilty of those by direction of Judge Philip Babington after the prosecution offered no evidence. Ebbs agreed to be bound over on those charges on his own bail of £250 to keep the peace for 18 months.

The court was told that Ebbs, who had a previous assault conviction, paid £200 to the hospital authorities the day after he smashed the window.

Ebbs, who was in breach of two probation ordders and in breach of a previous conditional discharge when he assaulted his victim in Altnagelvin Hospital, will be sentenced on June 17 following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
