The brutal murder of Derry musician Jim Gilchrist is to feature in a new BBC documentary.
Next Wednesday’s episode of BBC NI’s ‘In Cold Blood’ will include previously unseen CCTV footage of the movements of the killers and their victim on the night of the murder.

Father-of-five Jim Gilchrist (62) was beaten and dumped in the River Foyl
e in September 2005. Earlier this year, Anthony Fahy, (20) was given a life sentence for the murder while Daryl Quigley (21) and Daniel Young (21) were each given ten years for manslaughter.

Speaking to the ‘Journal’ yesterday, Mr Gilchrist’s daughter Catherine said the show was “very hard hitting”.

“We have seen a preview and it was devastating for us to watch the reconstruction as it does go into quite a lot of detail,” she said. “It brings the emotions all out but when I watched it, I just disconnected myself from it all.

“Things like this do help in some way. I’m glad to see something like this being broadcast because it allows the public to see these people for what they really are.

“I don’t think it will help bring us closure as such but I do feel that we must get on with our lives.”

The six-part series examines successfully solved civilian murder cases, giving viewers an insight into forensic science and criminal investigation.

In Cold Blood will be screened on BBC One NI on Wednesday, October 8, at 10.45pm and will be repeated on Thursday on BBC2 at 10pm.
