A heartbroken mother of a Derry man who took his own life has appealed to the public to help raise suicide awareness by attending a charity concert in Derry next week.
Bebe Johnston, whose 22 year-old son, Eamonn, died on July 11, 2007 hopes next Saturday night's event in Derry's Millennium Forum will help prevent other families having to suffer the devastation of suicide.
Almost half of the 1,000 tickets for th
e charity bash have already been snapped up - the proceeds of which will go to drug and alcohol support group HURT and suicide prevention bodies.
But Ms Johnston has appealed to music lovers to snap up the remaining tickets and come along for a "fantastic night of entertainment" to honour her beloved son on the second anniversary of his tragic death.
She told the 'Journal': "I've been working very hard to make the concert a success and I'd love for the people of Derry to come out in Eamonn's memory and support this important cause."
The bereaved mum said of the event: "It's something I thought up to mark Eamonn's second anniversary. I thought rather than be down in the dumps, I'd try to do something positive while at the same time raising awareness."
The concert will feature songs from a CD produced by Ms Johnston including a song penned in memory of Eamonn called 'Miss you more than words can say' which was written and performed by Mickey Coleman.
The concert will be compered by May McFetridge and among the artists appearing on the bill will be Damian McGinty of 'Celtic Thunder' fame, Mickey Coleman and Plunkett McGartland, Michael Doherty, Stephen Barr, Claire McCallion and Isabel Caldwell and Ben Kelly.
