A young Derry boy was struck in the eye by a bottle as he played near his home.
Ciaran Doherty was outside his house in Quarry Street when the attack took place on March 16.

Ciaran's mother Ashleen said her son has already lost "part of his sight in the eye".

"We took him to the hospital straight after he came and they told us to bring him back the next morning and the surgeon would stitch the eyelid," she said.

"But that's when they noticed the actual eyeball was cut from the top right down to the bottom and he got 12 stitches."

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack, which was only recently reported, to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

More details to follow throughout the day
