Hardline republicans in Derry say they expect to be "taken out" by a branch of the British security forces following the recent murders of two soldiers and a policeman.

One dissident republican source told the 'Journal' that active republicans in the city are concerned that a new campaign of assassinating dissidents will begin.

"It is only a matter of time before one of us is taken out by the Brits or some branch of their so-called security agencies. It is always a possibility but it seems more likely now. We would expect an attempt to be made to take someone out soon."

Meanwhile, the 32 County Sovereignty Movement (32CSM) in Derry says its members are being harassed by the PSNI on a daily basis.
A spokesperson for the 32CSM claimed the PSNI attempted to recruit two members of the group as informers and threatened their families when they refused.

One of the men, who did not wish to be named, said: "I have been stopped several times by the same plain clothes PSNI man over the last two months. He has called at my home and stopped my car, offering me money to work for them. I keep refusing and on Tuesday he stopped me again. I have recently split up with my ex-girlfriend, whose brother is in the police, and we have a child together. This policeman who keeps stopping me told me he would fix it so I wouldn't see my child again," he alleged.

Another man produced an audio recording, which the 'Journal' has heard, which, he claims, is evidence of PSNI officers attempting to recruit him.

"I have been getting harassed regularly and it is getting worse," he said. "I had several members of my family killed by the RUC in Belfast and when I was stopped last month they said they wouldn't want me to lose any more members of my family. I took that to be a veiled threat that my family would be targeted if I didn't become an informer," he claimed.

A spokesperson for the PSNI declined to comment on the allegations. "We do not comment on specific intelligence matters and no inference should be taken from this."

Why? Why now. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Do you really think that killing a couple of kids and robbing a beautiful couple, the police officer and his loving wife, of the joy of growing old together will do anything productive. Your logic is warped, tainted by hate. Where does your authority come from? A handful of zealots. What’s wrong with peace, seeing kids playing in the streets? You like to rule with fear and intimidation. Would that be your form of government, Fascism? I’d like to talk to you. You can kill me afterwards, I don’t really give a damn….you’ve ruined my faith in humanity. There was hope in Derry, not just for Northern Ireland…but for all mankind. I want to talk you…anywhere any time!

You're a bit of a drama queen there davey boy for all mankind!!!!, do me a favour define peace for me? because you're in Chicago and I'm here in the occupied six counties of Ireland the part of our country held under british control. The same Britain that is the root cause of all the problems in Ireland.

i dont agree with all davys sentiments but i think urris, who claims to be in derry is only adding to the problem with his/her stupidity.the only problems in ireland at the moment are unrepresentative criminals who betrayed the people of ireland by giving unionists another reason not to go into a united ireland. These people are killing just for the sake of killing,no political way forward or support, the good friday agreement is the only show in town and the killing only suits the brits strategy of countering our revolution.

Davey,
I'm not romanticizing anything theres nothing romantic about death, how can you assume romanticism from stating that the six counties are occupied by the british, and that britains presence in ireland is the root cause of all our political ills. Oddly enough there was this guy called Wolfe Tone...

And yes it is a beautiful place apart from an illegal border that cuts our country in two that was forced upon the people. I am being realistic. And realistic republican I am from derry and far from stupid. The good friday agreement the only show in town, what absolute rubbish sold and built on lies and half truths, and you speak like a true shinner. And realistic republican what revolution are you referring to, if you are a supporter of the gfa how can you claim to be part of anything revolutionary.

And in all this to see martin mcguinness a british minister in a british parliament by proxy call anyone a traitor is a joke the man should look in a mirror, he makes raymond gilmour look like an altar boy. And dear derrymucker The provos don't care who they shoot either or stab or beat to death for that matter, these post gfa killings attributed to pira didn't merit the same outpouring of public grief as two british soldiers and a british policeman and oddly enough those killings didnt have the same response from 'our politicians' a bit of stage management perhaps? or am I just cynical.

I tell you what if Sinn Fein are so concerned with justice lets see Sinn Feins leadership lead by example and publicly volunteer itself to the british historical enquiries team for their 'activities' and those of the provos.

I’m a freeman, no government owns me. I’ll not hate a man because he’s a Protestant, or Catholic, Republican, or Loyalist. Lines in the sand, countries are becoming corporations; it’s hard to see where one ends and the other begins. Where all ****ed

David ,I don't care for religion I have friends and relatives of different faiths, religion is not and has never been an issue for me. The sectarian equation to the situation here was created and perpetuated by the british from the plantation to the arming, providing intelligence and turning a blind eye to loyalist death squads. regardless of how they sell it the british are not and never have been a neutral negotiator between two warring religious factions, although thats how they would like to be seen. Maybe you should read into it a wee bit more?
