The red carpet was rolled out last night for Derry children at the glitzy premiere of a Tom Hanks blockbuster.
Children from Derry got the chance to act like stars for the night at the star-studded premiere of The City of Ember in Belfast on Thursday.

The City of Ember, filmed in Belfast last year, features a number of children from the city who starred alongside Hollywood giants Bill Murray and Tim Robbins.

Twins, Catherine and Amy Quinn, whose mother is from Creggan, Clare Monaghan, from Altnagelvin Park, and Alex, Callum and Finn McDonnell, from Clooney Terrace, all had either extra, or talking parts in the movie.

Filmed in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast, the City of Ember is an adventure movie by Tom Hanks' company, Play Tone Productions.

Based on the book by Jeanne DuPrau, the film is set in the not-too-distant future in a city built to ensure human survival, complete with stores of food and energy sources for the light. But when the lights begin to fail two children set out to ensure their people's survival.

The twins play the younger sister of the main character Lina Mayfleet, played by Saoirse Ronan, who tries to save the City of Ember when it comes under threat.

Siobhan Holmes, from extras company, ExtrasNI, who helped bring the children to the attention of the filmmakers, said the buzz surrounding the film was huge.

She said: "The BBC will be interviewing the twins and there will be a lot of media there. The Quinns are beside themselves with excitement. It takes so long for the movie to be edited and put together that the excitement dies down but it has been building up and they are beside themselves. There is a lot of excitement about them tonight. You don't know what is going to happen for them in the future."

All the children will be at the premiere in Derry on Friday to see the movie because they all couldn't make it last night.
