A Derry man accused of dangerous driving causing the deaths of five young Inishowen people in 2005 has been returned for trial by jury.
Brendan Henderson (49), of 16 Sevenoaks, Waterside appeared at Buncrana District Court this morning where he was remanded on bail by Judge Desmond Zaidan to appear for trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court on July 15. A book of evidence on the case was served by the State at Buncrana courthouse today and the DPP directed that he be tried by a jury.

Friends, Rochelle Peoples (22), Gavin Duffy (21), Charlene O'Connor (21), Darren Quinn (21) and David Steel (23) died in the two-car collision after a night out. Henderson - the sole-survivor and sole occupant of one of the vehicles involved - has been in a wheelchair since the collision as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash at Quigley's Point on October 8, 2005.

The accused, who denies the charge, was remanded on his own bail of 2,000 euro and an Independent surety of 10,000 euro. He was granted free legal aid.
