A 32-year-old man from the Ardmore area of Derry has pleaded guilty to four charges of fraud and one charge of attempted fraud after he obtained cutting equipment from local plant hire companies last year by purporting to represent the Department of the Environment.
Mark Andrew O'Neill from Gosheden, Cottages admitted the five charges when he was arraigned before the local Crown Court yesterday.

He committed the offences between May and August of last year at CP Hire Limited in Courtauld Way, G.A.Parke and Sons Limited in Newbuildings, McMenamin Plant Hire in Longfield Industrial Estate and in Coleraine.

Judge Philip Babington was told O'Neill, who has a criminal record including one conviction for theft, had returned almost half of the cutting equipment to the police.

O'Neill will be sentenced on June 17 following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
