A Derry man with 79 convictions for driving-related offences has been disqualified for six months after "taking a risk" to drive someone to a medical appointment in Ballykelly.
Limavady Magistrate's Court heard that Martin Coyle of Cashel Hill Park was stopped twice by police in the village on the afternoon of April 9.

Defence solicitor Paddy McGurk, who described Coyle's record as "atrocious", explained his client - a learner driver - was taking someone to the North West Independent Clinic after their taxi had failed to show up.

"He took a risk," said Mr. McGurk.

District Judge Eamon King said someone with Coyle's driving record could not be described as "naive".

He fined Coyle £210 for several offences, including no insurance and no MOT certificate.
