Irish actor James Nesbitt is to take part in the concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of Belfast-based record label, Good Vibrations.
Derry punk group The Undertones, who count the late John Peel, Bob Dylan and Madness among their fans, have been lined up to headline this event at Belfast’s Mandela Hall.
The Coleraine born actor, recently starred as Pontius Pilate in the BBC pro
duction ‘The Passion’ is to act as a compere on the night. James is perhaps mostly fondly remembered for his role as Adam in ‘Cold Feet’. In one scene, Adam plays ‘Teenage Kicks’ to his newborn son and informs the infant that the song was written by John O’Neill otherwise known as God!
Speaking about the scene James added: “I asked for that scene to be written in. Anyone who knows me knows that I think the Undertones are the best band of all time. I’m delighted to be helping out at the concert and I think it’s important to remember the Good Vibrations record label because, apart from bringing ‘Teenage Kicks’ to the world, it was a very positive force during some very dark times for Northern Ireland. We know how to party and this is a good reason for a celebration. I’m really looking forward to a great night!”
Good Vibrations was more than just another record shop and label. It enabled young people to believe in the power of self expression and understanding at a time when society in Northern Ireland was tearing itself apart.
To this end, the concert is billed as ‘Good Vibrations – A Light in the Darkness’.
Prior to the concert, a bus tour of Terri Hooley’s Belfast has been arranged as well as a special screening of John T Davis’ Ulster punk documentary “Shellshock Rock”.
Tickets for the concert cost £20 and are available from www.gotobelfast.com
