The fate of Derry's West End hopeful Gareth Barrow will be sealed this week as the 'last hat' to be crowned an Oliver semi-finalist will be handed out on Saturday night.
Speaking to the 'FN' yesterday Gareth Barrow's dad, Leonard said that he was elated with the comments made by Sir Cameron Mackintosh about Gareth's performance.
"When Sir Cameron Mackintosh described Gareth as a wonderful natural actor we were ove
rwhelmed. I mean, what better comment could a young actor have on his CV."
Mackintosh is the man described as the most successful, influential and powerful theatre producer of our time by 'The New York Times'.
He continued: "We were overjoyed by his comments about Gareth, it only endorsed what we already knew but it was like someone handing you a million pounds.
"He is one of the world's greatest theatre producers and for him to praise Gareth it was like gold dust. If the show ended now we would be happy with those remarks," he said.
Mr Barrow urged everyone to get behind Gareth as he enters week 8 in the BBC's 'I'd Do Anything' show.
"This week is the most important for Gareth to date, there is only one hat left to become an Oliver semi-finalist.
"We are all really hopeful that Gareth will get through but we need all the support we can get from back home for him."
He added:" We are so proud of him, he couldn't do more in our eyes."
Gareth enjoyed a taste of celebrity treatment on Sunday night when he got a roaring applause from the audience of 'The Show Must Go On' songs from the musicals in the Millennium Forum, where he was a special guest of Zoe Tyler.
