Man admits schoolgirl assaults
A thirty-six years old Co. Donegal man of no fixed abode is to be sentenced at the Crown Court in Derry next month after admitting assaulting, occasioning actual bodily harm, two schoolgirls in Derry last year.
Initially, Mark McInaw faced two charges of attempting to abduct the two girls - aged eleven and thirteen - from the Carlisle Road and Fountain areas of Derry on October 16 last. However, he was re-arraigned this week and admitted the two lesser charges of assault.
A prosecution barrister said the defendant accepted the guilty pleas to the assault charges and asked that the two attempted abduction charges be "left on the books not to be proceeded with without leave of the court".
Judge Desmond Marrinan Q.C. granted a defence application for a pre-sentence report and also ordered the preparation of medical and psychiatric reports before sentencing on June 20.
The court was told that expert medical witnesses would give evidence to the court next month and that the prosecution would made an application, at the appropriate time, for a Sex Offender's Prevention Order to be imposed on McInaw.
