Foyle MLA Martina Anderson has appealed to statutory agencies to do more to help people living in the isolated Derry community of Lettershandoney.
She made the call after visiting homes in the village for face-to-face talks with local people.

“It was certainly clear from our engagements that Lettershandoney is a community which suffers many of the same problems as urban areas despite its rural location,” she said.

Among the issues raised were anti-social behaviour, road quality and housing standards.

She added: “I have been in touch with the Housing Executive, the Roads Service and the PSNI regarding all these issues and we certainly hope to see some progress in the near future.

“In particular, the Housing Executive have informed me that they will be conducting an external maintenance scheme at Lettershandoney in April 2010 but I will be making further representations to try and get that date brought forward and to ensure that social homes in the area are brought up to the best possible standard.”
