Spooky Waterside Workhouse - Two boys once turned up for school in mid winter at the Waterside Boys' early 1940's with no shoes on. Apparently their shoes were taken off them to prevent them going to school but they jumped the wall to attend school.

My father was a patient when the workhouse was converted to a hospital and my mother had me smuggling in bowls of soup to him. I still remember creeping up the stone stairs to the ward.
