Feile 08 and the Palestinian Solidarity Group will stage a protest at Free Derry Corner at 1pm today.
A spokesperson said: "Following the creation of the State of Israel in May 1948, some 846,000 Palestinians were immediately driven out of their homelands or forced to flee the violence that accompanied the creation of the Jewish State.

"The new Israeli Government permitted very few Palestinians to return home and by 1950, more than one million Palestinians were living in UN-supported refugee camps. In the intervening years the region has never known peace and since September 2000 more than 5,000 Palestinians and 1,050 Israelis have died in the ongoing conflict. Despite such appalling statistics the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently congratulated Israel on its 60th anniversary of independence, calling the state's creation one of the 'greatest achievements' of the 20th century.

"Feile 08 and the Palestinian Solidarity Group invite local people to show their contempt for Prime Minister Brown's sentiments and your support for the Palestinian people."
