Police in Derry last night refused to rule out a link between a number of vicious sexual assaults on local women this week in the Ballyarnett area of Derry.
Area Commander Chris Yates spoke out after details emerged of yet another attack on a woman on Wednesday morning.

It's the third sexual assault on a woman in the city in the past week.
In the latest case the woman was walking along Ballyarnett Ro
ad on Wednesday morning when a man approached her and indecently assaulted her. This follows two incidents last Thursday when two women were attacked in broad daylight in the space of an hour as they walked along the Ballyarnett Road and Cornshell Fields.

The man involved on Wednesday is described as being between 5 foot 8 and 5 foot 10, of slim build and wearing a short black top, possibly a t-shirt or football top, black bottoms and a cream baseball cap.
Area Commander Yates said police are investigating the incidents and it's too early to say if the attacks are linked.

"This is very much an ongoing investigation and I would appeal for the public to continue to assist us in whatever way possible," he said.

"Information you have may appear insignificant but could be vital to the investigating officers. There is no denying that these incidents have been traumatic for those involved and we are keen to identify the persons involved as quickly as possible," he said.

Women in the area have been warned to be vigilant.

In another incident on Tuesday, a man indecently exposed himself to three girls in the Bligh's Lane area in Creggan, according to police. He's said to be around 40 years old with pale skin and wearing stone-washed jeans.

Be cautious

Rosie Doherty, Volunteer Co-ordinator with Galliagh Women's Group, said she was appalled at the attacks and appealed to the public to remain cautious.

Sinn Fein Councillor for the area Elisha McLaughlin condemned the attacks.

"We must not underestimate the seriousness of these attacks," she said
"This person is out there and until they are caught women in the area need to be particularly aware of the danger. Anyone with any information whatsoever should take it to the police immediately so that we can try and make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else."
