Michael Harkin from Galliagh got in contact by email this week with this startling photograph which appears to show a suspected UFO in the Prehen area of Derry.
He writes - "I am writing to see if you would be interested in a picture which was taken on my mobile phone yesterday (Tuesday, 6/5/08). It was taken from a car while travelling to Prehen in Derry. I realised that there seemed to be an unusual object in the sky and decided to take a picture. On examination it seems to be a saucer-like object flying flying not far above houses on the Prehen Road." He wonders if anyone else saw it? Perhaps there was one of those masterchefs in the vicinity . . .

Well, a picture like that is easy to fake - as long as it was edited on a computer. So if he could show it on his phone and prove he hasn't edited it then we'd know whether the picture was real or not.

It's most likely CGI but how would we know? Don't newspapers know that when a 'picture' is the 'issue' then the EXIF data is an issue as well. Why can't you provide the original picture or EXIF data? Sure, EXIF data can be modified but at least give us the opportunity to see it so we can decide for ourselves.

It looks like a street light to me. It just looks larger than the houses because it's closer to the camera. He took the picture so that the left side is obscured, and we can't see where the light is attached to the pole. It is a deliberate deception. What is unfortunate is that online papers actually publish this stuff....

Great Stuff! I'm amazed that no-one has mentioned the crop circles that have been appearing in the Dunmore, Carrigans area!

hi all, just to let you all know and to put to bed any rumours, the picture displayed was taken from my travelling car by michael, therefore no deception has taken place and the picture has not been modified on computer it is still on the mobile phone as you can see it on here and i can assure you it is not a street light.

hi rick, i would gladly submit the picture to your forum but how am i meant to prove that the picture i am sending you is the genuine picture from the mobile phone which it was taken from. many people are sceptical but i can assure you that you see on this website it is 100% genuine.

Tell you what Catriona, get another camera, and show us a picture or video of you accessing the picture on your phone and the details of the photo too. Most phones allow you to see details on such things as the date and/or time it was taken.
Then post a link to the photo here, then we'll know whether the photo is genuine or not.

And maybe it is just a lamp-post, not a normal one but it looks like it could be attached to a telegraph pole.

i have lived in prehen for 21 years and there are no lamposts that shape there, we were travelling past the everglades hotel at the time so you can see where the picture was taken from there. and for the final time i will tell you that the picture was taken from the mobile phone and the picture HAS NOT been tampered with, it is genuine and if you do not believe us then there is no more i can do for you!!
