A 27-year-old Gobnascale man is still in a critical condition in hospital after a vicious attack by up to ten men armed with baseball bats spiked with nails.
The family of Gary Jarvis are continuing their bedside vigil at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast this week after a series of operations by surgeons to try to reduce pressure on his brain.

Gary had been at his Derryview Terrace home on Tuesda
y night last with his girlfriend, Amanda Coyle, and their nine-year-old daughter, Kerry-Ann, when the gang burst through the back door. Amanda and Kerry watched in horror as Gary was repeatedly hit on the head with baseball bats spiked with nails.

Margaret Coyle, Amanda's mother, said her daughter and granddaughter were still in a state of shock over the attack and couldn't face returning to their home where Gary was attacked.

She toild the 'Journal': "She is still in a bad way. She won't go near the house at the minute and is staying here with me. She wouldn't even think about going there. I went up and got a few bits and pieces for her. She is up at the hospital at the minute with Gary's mum and the family, but there is no change in him yet. He's still critical."

Police have been conducting door to door interviews with neighbours in the area to find information about the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 600 8000 or the 'Crimestoppers' charity on 0800 555 111.
