Egg and onion or cheese and tomato are no longer the preferred fillings for Derry sandwich lovers according to a local artisan food brand. Synge & Byrne, which has its official launch today in the Foyleside Centre, says its customers know what side their baguette is buttered on when it comes to selecting their sandwich fillings, as gourmet choices are trumping traditional fare by an average of six to one.

Some of the most popular dishes on the sandwich menu are the Goat’s Cheese and Pear baguette, Smoked Turkey and Apple, with Rocket and Dijon on Rye and Pear & Mature Cheddar Cheese with Rocket Pesto melted on Sourdough toast. Area manager, Gilbert Montefalcon said: “Customers in the North West want as broad a choice of sandwiches as they have in London or New York, so we offer this variety.
