She may regularly rub shoulders with some of the world’s top celebrities - Lionel Messi, Kylie Minogue and Naomi Campbell to name just a few - but Derry girl Zeta Kearney has her feet firmly on the ground.

The 30-year-old - who features in the latest issue of style/fashion magazine ‘Company’ - is weddings and events manager at one of the top beach clubs on the sunny island of Ibiza.

Originally from the Abercorn Road area of the city, the former Thornhill College student has been working at the Amante Beach Club for almost 18 months - and it’s a job she loves.

“It’s fantastic,” she told the ‘Journal’ this week. “I’m living the dream.

“Just imagine having a desk with a sea view! It’s a pleasure coming to work and looking out of the window.”

Zeta is no stranger to the restaurant industry as both her parents - Ursula O’Doherty and Gordon Kearney - worked in the business and her first job after leaving school was in a restaurant.

Indeed, aged just 21, she was the youngest ever licensee of a tapas restaurant in London.

Always inspired by travel, after eight years working in food events and hospitality - including stints at high-profile events such as Wimbledon and Ascot - Zeta went on holiday to India and, “after hearing stories from other travellers”, decided she wanted to “escape London for a life in the sun.”

She added: “A friend put me in touch with Amante and, two months later in March 2011, I started my new life as an Ibizan restaurateur.”

Amante Beach Club is located in one of the most beautiful coves on Ibiza, perched on a cove overlooking the Sol D’en Serra Bay.

It’s a popular venue for weddings and other social events and, indeed, hosted the launch of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Aphrodite’ album.

At the start of this year’s summer season, says Zeta, 1,500 people joined their opening party.

Zeta - who tries to get back to Derry to visit family and friends as often as possible - says Amante has big plans for the future.

“We’re already planning big events for summer 2014 and we’re building a new jetty so boats can sail in for lunch or dinners. There’s no going back to rainy London now.”

Zeta Kearney appears in the September issue of ‘Company’ magazine which goes on sale on August 7.
