A unique piece of jewellery celebrating Derry’s City of Culture year is proving to be a big hit.

“A Drop of Derry”, by Faller the Jeweller of Strand Road, was designed specially in celebration of the city’s culture celebrations which get underway in just over a month’s time.

As can be seen from the picture (right), the new range encapsulates iconic imagery of Derry culture in a single droplet.

The icons depicted in the jewellery - a sterling silver pendant with chain and a sterling silver brooch - include the Guildhall, the Peace Bridge, dove and oakleaf mural, the Derry Walls, the “Hands Across the Divide” statue, the Derry Coat of Arms, the “Roaring Meg” cannon, and a Clipper yacht.

Comedy and tragedy masks - representing the city’s arts scene - are also among the images.

Una Carlin, designer goldsmith with Faller, says ‘The Drop of Derry’ range - from design concept, manufacture and retail, even down to the individual brand printing on the boxes - is done in-house at its Strand Road premises.

She says: “Proudly made in Derry is very important to us when most jewellery these days is made in the Far East.

“Over the years, most of our business has been one-off engagement and wedding rings but we have now extended to Faller exclusive production ranges.

“We now employ five female goldsmiths in our busy workshop.

“We have concentrated in making unique ranges that have a local flavour such as High Crosses of Inishowen, Galloglas Stone and the Oakleaf collection which all celebrate local history.

“In fact, next month we will be launching the Kryptos collection that can be individually personalised for our customers.”

Una says ‘The Drop of Derry’ range is attracting a lot of interest.

“It’s the perfect piece of jewellery for those who like to have a little bit of Derry with them wherever they go,” she says.
