NI Opera’s debut production, Tosca, won the prestigious Best Opera accolade at the recent Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards.

With each act held in a different location in the city last year, Puccini’s Tosca exemplified NI Opera’s determination to produce high quality opera. The production played to sell-out audiences to critical acclaim, with The Times hailing it as “a remarkable achievement” and The Independent calling it “a triumphant debut”.

NI Opera’s Artistic Director Oliver Mears said: “We are so delighted to have been given this special honour after only eighteen months in existence. It’s a great tribute to the hard work and creativity of so many of the people involved, and not least the people of Derry who welcomed us with open arms”.
