Evening Recital with Kim & Laura
Two exceptionally talented local musicians, Kim Vaughan, (Cello) and Laura Sheerin, (Vocals), are bringing their music back home for a special one-off recital.
For the first time since leaving Derry to further their musical studies, these two young women are returning to their hometown for an evening recital in Christ Church on Thursday, May 21.
Kim and Laura not only attended the same school and choir in Derry but also went on to secure places at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music – one of the most prestigious music conservatoire in the UK.
Kim Vaughan began playing the cello in 1994 and is presently completing a postgraduate Diploma at RNCM studying with Emma Ferrand and Gregor Horsch. In 2000 she was awarded the "Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year" and later that year received a scholarship to study at the Applehill Center for Chamber Music, USA. She was a recipient of the Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholars Trust Award in 2008.
Laura Sheerin is a 4th year undergraduate soprano at the RNCM studying with Peter Alexander Wilson. She has been involved in a variety of performances, appearing in the choruses of Puccini's La Rondine, Weill's The Threepenny Opera and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Laura is a keen choral singer, performing regularly with the Manchester Consort in England and the City of Derry chamber choir, Codetta.
