Family fun at Earagail Festival

The Earagail Arts Festival has lined up a feast of budget-beating family fun to give us all a lift this summer, according artistic director Paul Brown.

"We know that times are tough and we have set out to bring the best of family and outdoor entertainment at an affordable cost to Donegal this year. Bring the whole family along to our free Carnival Parade which will be led by the award-winning Inishowen Carnival Group and New Orleans Hot 8 Brass Band in Letterkenny on Sunday July 12."

Paul is also inviting the family along afterwards to the Village Fete at the Town Park – with a Victorian village bandstand, MC Little John Nee, songsters, street performers, comedians and oddballs, circus sideshows and a tented tea-dance.

He said; "On site you'll find the farmers' market, inflatables and plenty of activities that make this a festival highlight year on year."

Film fans are also in for a treat this year with Drive-In screenings of 80s adventure and horror cult classics The Fog, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park at the Ards Forest Park on July 14, 15 and 16.

The artistic director saod children will love the superb blend of comedy, song and silliness of "Cat Up A Hot Pine Tree!" at the Glebe House Gallery and Gardens in Churchill on July 11 and 13. "Bring a picnic or enjoy some great summer fare at the Great Glebe Gastro BBQ," he said.The Outdoor, Family and Children's Events programme also features Jerry Harmon, an authentic Appalachian musician and storyteller; the award-winning Pca Puppets "Risn agus an Rn" written with humour and zest by poet Nuala N Dhomhnaill, with music by Colm Snodaigh of Kla and sound artist, Slavek Kwi; and Chapterhouse Theatre Company's production of Merlin the Magician on the immaculate lawns of the Rathmullan House Hotel.
