Foyle Pride returns
Derry’s Foyle Pride Festival will return this year for a third time from August 22-26, and organisers promise an even bigger and better festival than the last with 2012’s theme revealed as ‘Exploring Identity.’
Last year, 7,400 people attended the Foyle Pride Parade alone and initial predictions suggest even more will join these unique celebrations this year.
Shá Gillespie, chairperson of the Foyle Pride committee, said: “Foyle Pride promotes understanding and respect for diversity, it provides a diverse programme of quality entertainment and creativity with mass appeal actively enhancing Derry’s reputation as an enjoyable welcoming and safe place.
“The Festival was a great success last year. It was fantastic to see so many people on the streets of Derry. Pride is a celebration of the LGBT community and an important cultural event for the city.
“This year we want to make Pride bigger and better and hope that all of the Derry community will come out and support us.”
The Foyle Pride Parade itself is a spectacular and colourful event, its carnival atmosphere creating a fantastic day out for all the family on the August bank holiday weekend, Saturday, August 25, leaving Waterside Station for the Guildhall at 2pm.
The committee urge everyone who would like to get involved to contact Foyle Pride via Facebook: www.facebook.com/foylepride. Additional information can be found on the Foyle Pride Festival website: www.foylepridefestival.com or by emailing: Sha682000@yahoo.com.
