Green Lane Museum gets new look for 2012
Green Lane Museum has a brand new look for 2012 and will be celebrating this with the opening of a new exhibition on Wednesday 16 May at 2pm featuring photographs of Limavady men who served in the First World War.
Located within Roe Valley Country Park, Green Lane Museum gives visitors the opportunity to see historical exhibits relating to local trades, agriculture and linen production and to experience the true flavour of days gone by in Limavady.
Central to the museum’s ‘redisplay’ is the arrival of the Limavady and District War Memorial, which lists the names of those who served in the First and Second World Wars. Recently donated items such as a W. & T. Avery weighing machine are also now on display.
The photographic exhibition has been produced in partnership with Alistair Harper of the Limavady War Project. Alistair is trying to compile a record of local people who served in the First World War and the photographs which feature in the exhibition have been collected from the research he has conducted so far.
Victoria Newberry, Museum/Heritage Officer, said: “The exhibition ties in really well with the arrival of the Limavady and District War Memorial at the museum. Visitors will be able to match up names on the memorial boards with photographs of men featured in the exhibition. The photographs will help to personalise the memorial which serves as a poignant reminder of the local sacrifices made during conflict.”
Mr. Harper is keen to source more photographs of local people who served in the First World War. If you have anything that you think would be of interest, please contact him on 028 7776 2652 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
All are welcome to attend the opening of the exhibition on 16 May and admission is free. The museum is open six days a week from 1 May to 31 August, from 1pm – 4.45pm (closed Fridays). The exhibition will run until 28 June. For further information, please contact the Limavady Tourist Information Centre on Tel: 028 7776 0650.
