THREE Inishowen students have been named as finalists in the Doodle 4 Google national art competition.

In total nine Donegal students are amongst 75 Irish students in with a chance of seeing their doodle on the Google Ireland Homepage for all to see.

The Doodle 4 Google competition was launched in October 2011 and it is open to all primary and secondary schools in the Republic of Ireland.

The five class group winners and their teachers will receive a laptop each. The overall winner will also have their doodle shown on the Google Ireland homepage for a whole day in March 2012 and the winner’s school will receive a €10,000 euro technology grant from Google.

People throughout Inishowen are encouraged to log on and visit www.google.ie/doodle4google to vote for their favourite.

Voting will close at midnight on February 6th. The five most popular doodles, one from each age category, will go forward to the final and a Google master doodler will select the overall winner.

John Herlihy, Head of Google Ireland, said “Every year I am blown away by the imagination that Irish children show in the doodles they create. It is fantastic to see such creativity and passion in Ireland’s youth. This year’s theme of “I wish…” really inspired them, the doodles depict everything you could possibly think of, space travel, dinosaurs, dragons and everything in between.”

“It was extremely difficult for our expert judges to narrow the field of almost 2000 doodles down to just 75 finalists. All of the finalists should be proud of their tremendous achievement. I’d encourage everyone in Donegal to go to the website, have a look at the fantastic doodles that have been created by students from all over the country and vote for their favourites.” he added.
