Local dancers perform Olympic-inspired dance
Local dancers from Derry’s award-winning Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company will be performing their Olympic-inspired dance production, The Feel of Play, at a Legacy celebration event tomorrow, September 1, in The MAC, Belfast.
The event is being organised by the Connections programme, part of funding body Legacy Trust UK who invested over £1 million in projects in Northern Ireland in the run up to London 2012.
Echo Echo was one of the six main partners to deliver the sport themed arts events which included a two year dance programme with Steelstown Primary School, an audience development programme and three innovative productions including ‘The Chess Piece’, which was awarded an Inspire Mark from the London 2012 organising committee.
Tomorrow’s event is part of a full day of free workshops and performances with invited guests.
Echo Echo will be offering two free workshops on the day alongside The Beat Carnival Initiative, Open Arts, Northern Ireland Screen, Beam Creative Network and The Verbal Arts Centre.
Echo Echo’s performance will take place outdoors in St Anne’s Square and features six local dancers and live music by Derry musicians Gary Cunningham and Mark O’Doherty from the band, Balkan Alien Sound.
Seb Coe, Chair, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: “I am proud that with the help of partners such as Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company, who are delivering on our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in dance and sport.”
Echo Echo will perform at 12.30pm tomorrow in St Anne’s Square, Belfast, followed by a Dance Picnic at 2.30pm.
Both events are free.
