Belfast born author Lucy Caldwell, whose book ‘All the Beggars Riding’ has been selected as the ‘One City One Book’ read for City of Culture will be appearing at Café Blooms in the Verbal Arts Centre this coming Saturday, February 23, from 3pm.

During this free event, hosted by Marie Lousie Muir from BBC Radio Ulster’s Arts Extra, Lucy will be reading an extract from her new book and answering questions.

One City One Book is an initiative that aims to develop the art of reading. It is a campaign which will run throughout the month of May in Northern Ireland.

‘All the Beggars Riding’, published in February 2013, will be serialised on Book at Bedtime on BBC Radio 4 in early March. It has been chosen as both Irish Waterstone’s Book of the Month as well as Eason Bookclub Choice.

The book is narrated by Lara who lost her father in a helicopter crash when she was twelve. A prominent plastic surgeon, and Irishman, her father had honed his skills on the bomb victims of the Troubles spending most of his time in Belfast, where he led another life.

Author Lucy Caldwell expressed her delight at having had her book chosen for One City One book: “‘All the Beggars Riding’ was an intense and passionate novel to write, and a story I’d been researching and imagining for many years. I can’t wait for the conversations it’ll provoke and the tales it’ll inspire.”

There is free admission to the event and all are welcome.
