Derry’s Playhouse is looking forward to an action packed weekend of
opera and jazz.

Acclaimed Tenor Enrico Caruso starts the action off tonight when he is accused of pinching ladies’ bottoms in Central Park Zoo in 1906. Featuring live opera, singing including Puccini and Verdi, and performed by Ignacio Jarquin, ‘Caruso and The Monkey House Trial’ will be performed tonight at 8pm. This is the latest production by the theatre company which brought the beautiful and powerful Caruso & The Quake to The Playhouse last February, Caruso now returns to the stage for the
ultimate trial.

The first class night of opera will be followed by an evening with a brand new 10-piece band featuring the cream of NI jazz talent. The Jeremy Lyons Ensemble will bring its original jazz music to The Playhouse
tomorrow night.

With four saxes, three brass and a pumping rhythm section playing original music composed by Ensemble leader, Jeremy Lyons, the evening promises fantastic sounds, interweaving improvisations, soaring horn lines, counter melodies and punchy riffs.

Linley Hamilton, BBC Radio Ulster has called Jeremy “key to the development of jazz in the province; a force for change, a creative generator of
original music”.

“What a great weekend of top rate music! Whether you fancy the innovative and unique jazz from the Northern Ireland brightest and best, or a very special opera, where the audience will not only hear the exceptional story of Caruso’s most famous trial, but will also act as jury, choosing whether to set him free or not!” says Max Beer
of The Playhouse.
