Tickets for the Peace One Day concert are to be given away free, thanks to a big-hearted benefactor, the ‘Journal’ can exclusively reveal.

The generous intervention will allow around 10,000 revellers to pack into Ebrington Square for next Thursday’s musical extravaganza - paying nothing more than a £1.50 ticket handling charge.

The ‘Journal’ learned of the surprise last minute move by an anonymous benefactor last night as tickets continued to be sold for £22.50.

However, those who have paid up for tickets to the hotly anticipated gig can be assured that they will be fully refunded, according to the company promoting the event.

A spokesperson for Aiken PR last night confirmed: “Tickets for the Peace One Day concert at Ebrington Square on June 21 will shortly be made free. Details on where and when they will be available will be announced shortly. Anyone who has purchased a ticket for the event will be entitled to a refund from their point of purchase.

“This has been made possible by a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous.”

Meanwhile, chart topper Pixie Lott says she ‘can’t wait’ to perform in Derry at next Thursday’s concert. The singer-songwriter will be joined at the city’s new venue by Imelda May, Newton Faulkner, Guillemots and Derry’s own Wonder Villains.

Pixie Lott said: “It’s a great opportunity for the entire city to come together and celebrate. I’ve heard Derry crowds are fantastic!”

Hollywood heart-throb Jude Law will fly into the city to host the event.
