‘Plutonium’ launch for Our Krypton Son
Derry band Our Krypton Son will launch their brand new single ‘Plutonium’ tomorrow evening, May 26, at Sandinos Back Bar, in association with Smalltown America Records.
This occasion will see some exceptional support, including The Wood Burning Savages, The Murder Balladeers, a dollop of delicious visuals and expert tune spinnerage from the legendary DJ Paul BamBam McCartney.
The second single to be taken from Our Krypton Son’s debut eponymous album, ‘Plutonium’ is available as a limited edition, coloured 7” vinyl and digital download exclusively through independentmusic.com and at local indie record store Cool Discs on Foyle Street.
Speaking of his imminent release, which is receiving airplay all over the country right now, singer Chris McConaghy says: “It’s dead exciting having the single on vinyl. Our last single was digital download only - which was fine - but nothing beats being able to walk into Cool Discs and see it sitting there on a shelf with all the other music.”
‘Plutonium’ is a deftly crafted tale which showcases the vocal talent of OKS’ Chris McConaghy in breathtaking fashion. Broken, vamped chords tumble over an aching lyric which describes perfectly the elemental joy of falling in love (again?). Images of boyhood flutter into view throughout the track and our singer’s “dreams of plutonium” could perhaps be a metaphor for the elemental joy of finding a soulmate to watch the world with.
It has already received a lot of airplay and has been championed by the likes of Stuart Bailie (BBC Radio 1 NI) and Stephen McCauley (Electric Mainline) amongst others.
Our Krypton Son will also perform a stripped down acoustic set in Cool Discs at 3pm that afternoon, ably joined by local tunesmith Conor Mason who’ll regale the hungry throng with some self penned classics of his own.
Admission to Sandinos is £4 and doors open at 9pm.
“The title track is a soft piano ballad that drifts between a hushed Jeff Tweedy-style delivery and a growly Dennis Wilson-esque ode, complete with warped ‘Pacific Ocean Blue’ style studio effects. It’s short and sweet but delivered perfectly.” - Stephen Purcell (Wearenoise.com)
“More introspective and bare than previous single ‘Catalonian Love Song’, here he calls to mind the best of Blur’s sparse ‘Out Of Time’ and The Eels more poignant moments. Like those acts OKS cannot but help his pop instincts and this is a a well-crafted, fully realised song.” - Aaron Rogan (VenueOne.com)
“Our Krypton Son has created a masterpiece.” (GigApe.com)
