Three local giants of jazz will join forces for a sensational theatre show dedicated to Louis ‘Satchmo’ Armstrong at The Playhouse next weekend.
Showcasing the iconic life and music of world renowned jazz musician Louis Armstrong, Gay McIntyre (clarinet), Rick Swann (trumpet), and John Trotter (trombone) the much anticipated show will come to the stage on Saturday, February 9.
Trumpeter Rick Swann has made appearances around the UK, Europe and US, and on stages such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, Belfast’s Odyssey Arena and as lead trumpet onboard RMS Queen Mary 2.
A veteran of jazz in Ireland and Europe, Derry alto saxophonist and clarinettist Gay McIntyre has maintained a successful career as a musician, with associations ranging from Acker Bilk to Kenny Ball to Louis Stewart.
Multi-instrumentalist John Trotter is a veteran of the City of Derry Jazz Festival, an expert in Scottish and Irish traditional music and a great exponent of Cuban Salsa music. Combine this with a great singing voice, and you have a formidable musician” says Áine McCarron at The Playhouse.

“For this first class show these fabulous three musicians will team up with a richly talented rhythm section, this show promises to be a night to remember”
