Scoil Mhuire’s Musical cuts ‘Footloose’

‘Footloose’, one of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory will be bursting on to the stage in Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana at the end of January with exhilarating results. Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack (played by Jack Shallow) and his mother Ethel (played by Anne Marie Doherty) who are forced to move from Chicago to live with Aunt Lulu (played by Rebecca McKinney) when Ren’s father deserts the family. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the
son that he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. ‘Footloose the musical’ celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind and is guaranteed to be a fun night
for all ages.

The musical features a strong supporting cast and chorus of 20 students who have been in rehearsals for four months. ‘ Footloose’ also features members of staff who play supporting roles or cameo roles – Mr Liam Rainey who plays the principal, Mrs Nikki McIntyre who plays the owner of the local diner and Mr William O’Connor who plays the High School coach. Scoil Mhuire is delighted to welcome back past pupils Emile Rainey and Philip Doherty who had leading roles in its 2005 school musical and they play the roles of Uncle Wes and Travis/Cowboy Bob respectively.

Scoil Mhuire’s fifth musical is headed by the same production team as ‘Grease’ (2003), ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (2005), ‘Buddy Holly’ (2007) and ‘Back to the 80s’ (2009) – Director, Ms. Denise Roper, Choreographer, Ms. Tanya Ward and Producer, Ms. Lorna Barron. The musical runs from Wednesday 23rd – Friday 25th January at 8pm nightly with a special matinee for the senior classes in the local primary schools on Tuesday 22nd January. The ticket booking office opens in the School Library next Monday 14th January – Telephone (074) 93 20670 from 9am-4pm daily. Reserved tickets must be collected within two school days. As seating is strictly limited, early booking is strongly advisable.
