The unforgettable Amelia Earhart. (1505JC4)

Previously unseen photographs of Amelia Earhart’s historic day in Derry 80 years ago next week are to go on display at the Tower Museum this weekend as part of the 2012 Earhart Festival.

This illuminating exhibition offers a unique opportunity to view the previously unseen photographs of Earhart’s day in Derry from May 21/22 in 1932.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 11am- 9pm and forms the backdrop for the launch of ‘Amelia Earhart :First Lady of Aviation,’ a graphic novel publication specially commissioned from Joe Campbell and Felicity McCall to mark the 80th anniversary of Earhart’s solo transatlantic crossing.

Festival director Oliver Green says: “This is a significant exhibition is its own right as it uniquely captures the images and mood of that historic 24 hours in Derry, on May 21/22 1932. We are also delighted to include some previously unseen photographs chronicling not only the images but the atmosphere of an unforgettable day.”
