Singer Soak makes Radio 1 breakthrough

Derry teenage singer songwriter Soak was named BBC Radio 1’s ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Week’ this week.

As a result her track ‘Finger’s Crossed’ was played on a host of BBC Radio 1 shows by respected DJs such as Scott Mills, Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton. Taking to social networking sights Soak told her fans simply “ermahgerddddddddddddddddddd” (Oh my God) before posting a picture of the BBC Radio 1 playlist. Soak AKA Bridie Monds-Watson, has recently played the City of Culture launch, as well as having supported the Villagers and Heathers. Her second EP ‘Sea Creatures’ is out now. Soak says that she is looking forward to being part of next year’s cultural celebrations and appearing on RTE’s revered ‘Other Voices’ music programme when they broadcast from Dingle, Derry and London in the New Year. “It’s going to be an amazing year for Derry and I am looking forward to getting as involved as much as I can. The last few months have been amazing for me.”
