The Clock Tower at the former Ebrington Barracks becomes a giant projection screen for the offical opening of the 26 acre Ebrington Square. The square which is larger than London's Trafalgar Square, opened to the Derry~Londonderry public and will be the venue for the Peace One Day concert headlined by Massive Attack on the 21st of June 2012. A spectacular light show was among the highlights of the opening of Derry’s Ebrington Square last night.

Thousands braved the cold to mark the Square’s opening.
A host of popular entertainers and musicians — including Bronagh Gallagher — gave impeccable performances in front of a large and appreciative crowd.

The stage was set against the backdrop of a spectacular light show projected onto the historic barrack buildings, some of which date back over two centuries.
The Square, capable of holding up to 15,000 people, is widely regarded as a key aspect in Derry’s regeneration.
In June, the former military site will host the Peace One Day concert.
Among the dignitaries to attend were Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness, and chairman of Derry’s urban regeneration company Ilex
