St. Mary’s College Choir have yet again qualified for the regional finals of the RTE Co-operation Ireland School Choir of the Year competition.

The schools performance at the regional finals will be aired on RTE 1 this Sunday afternoon.

The choir have twice reached the national final of this competition. After submitting a CD featuring their already widely recognised talents, St Mary’s College Choir qualified for the regional final.

The school made Feis history this year by wining all post-secondary choral competitions in the Derry Feis plus the Mason cup for Choral excellence.

The RTE regional heats were recorded in the Braid Art Centre, Ballymena on Monday October 15. The Northland Road choir was the only choir from the North West to qualify and are considered among the top 20 choirs in Ireland having reached the regional final

The St. Mary’s girls under the leadership of Ms. Emma Jayne Kelly, performed a moving rendition of Havelock Nelson’s ‘My Native Land’ and an uplifting and jazzy rendition of Duke Ellington’s: ‘It Don’t Mean a thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing,’ under the direction of Ms. Kelly and accompanist is Joan Keaveney.

St Mary’s Choir’s success in the regional final of the Cooperation Ireland Choir of the Year Competition will be broadcast on RTÉ 1 on Sunday November 4 at 5.10pm in a programme presented by Ann Cassin.
