Strabane Eurovision hopeful targeted online
The mentor of Strabane Eurovision hopeful Ryan Dolan has criticised those targeting the singer online.
Stuart O’Connor says the Strabane singer - currently the bookies favourite to represent Ireland in this year’s Eurovision - has been targeted on file sharing website Youtube by fans of rival entrants.
“We have been very surprised by the negative comments and remarks made about Ryan and his song on his YouTube site. It is hurtful and upsetting for Ryan’s family,” Stuart says.
“We are all for competition. Competition is good and that is exactly what Eurovision is all about.
“We wouldn’t dream of doing that to another artist as all five nominees for Eurosong deserve an equal chance and in competition we have a duty to one another to respect each other’s song choice.
“We feel strongly about respecting each other’s choice and are very surprised at the negative comments.”
Ryan’s song ‘Only Love Survives’ was co-written by fellow Strabane native Wez Devine and entered the iTunes top 200 last week.
Ryan is also the 2/1 favourite with Paddy Power to be selected to represent Ireland at this year’s competition.
You can vote for the Strabane man to represent Ireland when all entries appear on the Late late Show on February 22.
