Summertime arrives at the Alley Theatre
Looking for fun things to do this summer? Well, look no more as there is plenty to see and do over the summer months at Strabane’s Alley Theatre.
Every Thursday and Friday night from now until the end of August the Café Bar in the theatre will be holding their first ever ‘Open Mic Nights’ and back by popular demand ‘Summer Jazz Nights’.
Now is your time to shine. Every Thursday night the microphone will vibrate with voices as performers speak, sing or act out their minds for all to see. Up first on Thursday, July 19, is Sounds Like Summer finalist Paul Tully, singer/songwriters Adam McBride and Saoirse McGranaghan and comedian Chris Johnston.
However if you have a yearning to perform then we want to hear from you. Everyone welcome all genres of talents, styles covers or originals just bring your own instrument, play, jam or perform. As a spectator it’s the perfect opportunity to come along catch up with friends and relax whilst watching some great talent. Tickets are available now at £3 each. Also back by popular demand is the wonderful Summer Jazz Nights with Jazz Gazette. A firm favourite in last years Summer programme, Jazz Gazette are back for a session of seven nights from Friday, July 20 to Friday, August 31. As last year, guest musicians are welcome to jam with the band and this year will feature a few notable guest players. Sit back and enjoy the long summer nights, catch up with friends and enjoy exceptional music in the Alley Bar. Tickets are £5 per evening or £25 for all seven evenings. Light finger food will be provided.
Showing in the award winning Alley Exhibition area Strabane District Council with generous support from the Heritage Lottery Fund are hosting a celebration of the works of Strabane native R.J Welch (1856 -1939). 2012 marks the Centenary of a number of historical events, and the Alley Theatre marks this pivotal year with a celebration of the work of R.J. Welch with a stunning photographic exhibition. Fifty stunning black and white images are on display in our state of the art gallery where you can get a sample of Welch’s incredible body of work, including of course many iconic images of the Titanic, in this centenary year of it sinking. This exhibition is on show until Friday, August 3. The Alley Exhibition area is open from Monday – Saturday from 9am – 5pm.
