Talent shines at first 421 Live concert
Inspired Derry students who have set up their own music promotion company - 421 Live - will hold a series of concerts over this year and next, highlighting the region’s incredible talent, with the first being held tomorrow night, October 17, at the Castle Bar.
Each concert will have a unique theme and the 2nd Year Music Technology students at North West Regional College have themed tomorrow’s inaugural concert as ‘Acoustic Lounge’.
Headlining this intimate event is Donegal based multi-instrumentalist Mark Black, with support from rising star Soak and Derry-based singer songwriter Susie Blue.
Mark Black is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, whose musical credentials include two self-produced studio albums and a double live album and concert DVD featuring a 13-Piece Big Band.
He has also performed at numerous festivals including Glastonbury 2009, Sea Sessions, the Derry City Jazz & Big Band Festival, Castlebar Blues Festival, Limavady Blues Festival, Earagail Arts Festival, Enniskillen Arts Festival and the Dunfanaghy Jazz & Blues festival.
His distinctive style of “rootsy blues” has seen him tour with and support the likes of Alabama 3, Paddy Casey, Mundy, Hot House Flowers, Jerry Fish & The MudBug Club, Brian Kennedy, Duke Special, Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford from Squeeze.
Derry teenage singer-songwriter Soak is fast becoming one of the most exciting musical prospects to emerge from Northern Ireland in years. Recently described as an “unbelievable talent” by Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, she has just launched her 2nd EP ‘Sea Creatures’ to great critical acclaim.
Susan or Susie-Blue as she is better known, is a young woman who started making a mark on the emerging acoustic scene in Derry.
She has played various gigs within the town and supported such big acts as Ram Pocket Radio in late September. She is working on her 1st EP with her new single called ‘Sleepy Nights’.
‘Acoustic Lounge’ kicks off at 10.30pm tomorrow, upstairs in the Castle Bar on Waterloo Street. Admission is £3.
