Meet kind hearted Annie who spent her ninth birthday signing her and her dog Sandy up to the Foyle Hospice charity fundraiser.

The primary five Hollybush Primary School pupil adopted her dog only a few weeks ago and immediately named him after the dog in the famous musical.

The red headed school girl lists Annie as one of her favourite shows, her mother, Sinead Harley said: “We got the dog a few weeks ago and he is a bit scruffy so there was only one name suitable. “She is really looking forward to the charity event, a hard knock life.”

The Foyle School of Speech and Drama in association with Foyle Hospice, are hoping to break the world record by gathering over 4,500 ‘Annies’ in the largest ever choreographed dance routine, ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’ at Ebrington Square on March 2. The fundraiser in aid of the Foyle Hospice is part of the official City of Culture 2013 programme. The Culmore girl is named Annie after her well known great-grandmother, who ran Annie’s Shop by the Rosemount Boys’ School at Helen Street. Life continues to imitate art with Annie as her maternal grandmother is Desertegney’s Mrs (Ruby) Hannigan who has the same name as Annie’s arch nemisis in the musical.

One of four siblings, Annie will be joined by Rebecca, 16, Aoife, 14 and Oran 12 at Ebrington. For further information please contact the Foyle Hospice on 02871359888.
