Local young wannabes will get the chance to learn from one of music’s rising stars next week when Ben Kelly, finalist in the hit BBC TV show, The Voice, will conduct a masterclass at the Millennium Forum as part of their InterAct Youth Arts Festival.

The 22 year-old singer-songwriter from Derry has taken time of out his busy schedule to deliver a special class advising local kids on how to prepare for a singing audition. This three-hour workshop takes place on Wednesday, August 15 as part of the week-long festival of events that sees twelve venues across the North West play host to a plethora of free workshops, masterclasses and film screenings to keep all 12-21 year-olds busy.

The Culmore man has a varied musical background to share with participants. Since 2012 he has built up a strong YouTube following of over 1 million viewers and recently was a Top 40 finalist on BBC’s The Voice UK. Ben wowed the coaches with his version of Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ and ended up having the choice of Jessie J, Sir Tom Jones, Danny O’Donoghue and Will.I.Am to have as his mentor.

Ben will bring his experiences of working with Jessie J to the Millennium Forum to coach participants in preparing for a singing audition. He will perform for the group, offer advice on audition situations and provide feedback for singers.

Sinead Crossan, Festival Director of InterAct, is delighted to welcome Ben to the festival.

She commented: “It is a real treat to welcome such a fantastic talent from our city to join the InterAct Festival. Ben Kelly is a true gentleman who had gained so much experience in performing and songwriting. We are delighted to have Ben as a special guest during InterAct to share some tips with our up-and-coming talented teenagers! Ben’s masterclass sold out within two days of the programme launch!”
