Trek Peru fundraiser this Sunday

Several local musicians will come together at Masons Bar this Sunday night, May 31, for a special fundraiser in aid of Children in Crossfire's Trek Peru 2009.

Our Krypton Son, Facelift Junction, Sean O'Hagan and DJ Murzo (Distinctive resident) will all play for this very worthy cause upstairs at Masons Bar.

Two local men, Kevin Brown and Kevin Ward, have organised this event in the hope of raising money to help some of the world's poorest communities as part of the Children in Crossfire trek.

The duo, both employees at The Link Service Station on Creggan Road, are all set to embark upon this grand adventure in November this year.

Well-known local musician Kevin Brown told 'Northern Beats': "We're both really looking forward to the challenge. During this trek we will take in some of the most stunning views in the world, 4,500ft up the Peruvian Andes, including the legendary lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu."

"Not only is the trek a massive challenge in itself, but we also have the huge task of raising 3,600 each before we go for some of the world's poorest communities, but we're doing really well so far and are well on our way to our first 1,000 already."

Speaking of Sunday's event, Kevin went on: "Sunday night in Masons should be a great night, with some great acts performing, and let's not forget the host with the most, Mr Ryan O'Doherty, who will be hosting the whole event. Billy Campbell of Masons has very generously allowed us the use of his venue and a few raffle prizes as well. The Bay Leaf Restaurant has also thrown in a meal for two and there will be loads more amazing prizes to be won on the night, so hopefully people will come along for a great night out."

The two Kevin's have also set up a special website where local folk can follow their fundraising progress and even sponsor them online.
