A Derry production company is to launch a You Tube channel next year - one of the first European channels to operate via the online video file sharing site.

360Production will launch the channel - provisionally to be called Head Squeeze - in association with BBC Worldwide, with backing from Northern Ireland Screen.

The new channel will operate from Derry and is one of 21 new You Tube channels to launch in the UK.

Programmes will be topical and entertaining, presented by James May of Top Gear – who already has a strong collaborative relationship with 360Production. It will be supported a crack team of scientists who will respond to the latest trends and news.

Padraig Canavan, President of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are delighted that one of our members has broken into this new media market in such an impressive way. This is not just good news for Derry and Northern Ireland, it also provides major confirmation of the progress being achieved by DigitalDerry – the agency led by the Chamber of Commerce that is supporting emerging digital businesses in the city.

“All credit to Catherine Ross, John Farren and the 360Production team. They are a young but successful business and I hope that what they are already achieving will inspire another new generation of digital entrepreneurs in the city. It also provides further evidence of the benefits of the education of the STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths – subjects. Enhancing and expanding STEM education at post-primary and higher education levels is a priority for the Chamber.”

John Farren, creative director of 360Production, said: “The channel will aspire to provide left-field insights, sideways interpretations and bizarre, entertaining facts about whatever is in the news, trending on twitter, or being discussed at the water cooler. There will be a mix of science, technology and current affairs, covering everything from the latest scientific research to breaking political scandals.

“The content will be funny and light-hearted and the topics will be transformed through the work of animation.”
